FORT OF SÃO FILIPE

The Fort of São Filipe was built during the Spanish occupation, in 1582, during the reign of King Filipe I, as a way of reinforcing the defence of Setúbal against piracy. Classified as National Monument by the Directorate General for National Buildings and Monuments, since the 20th century. It has been refurbished and operates as an inn.

There is also a chapel inside the fort, with a particular feature: it is totally lined with tiles of Oliveira Bernardes.
