ARRÁBIDA CONVENT

The Arrábida Convent, built in the 16th century has approximately 25 hectares which comprise the so called Old Convent, located in the highest part of the mountain, the New Convent at the middle of the slope, the Garden and the Shrine of Good Jesus. The historic monument was founded in 1542 by Friar Martinho de Santa Maria, a Spanish Franciscan to whom D. João de Lencastre, first duke of Aveiro, gave the Arrábida Mountain slope land.
